Having the right team in place to support college students with ID to access and succeed in employment is critical—and complicated. Students may be eligible for employment services from various state and federal entities (e.g., ED, DD, VR, HCBS waiver) and coordinating these with existing program services is critical. So where do you start when trying to optimize the resources available and support the best outcomes? Our presenters will tackle this topic, highlighting the need for individualized planning of employment services and supports for college students with ID.

During a Student Credentials Affinity Group meeting, Dr. Christi Kasa from University of Colorado Colorado Springs presented on Colorado’s portable credential available at 3 of Colorado’s inclusive postsecondary education (IPSE) programs. The process and philosophy behind this portable credential and the program of study it represents is provided. The presenters also share how the students are able to take courses for credit through a transcript designation of ‘modified course.’ A sample transcript is shared.

Dr. Tobey Partch-Davies provides information on microcredentials and explains how they can be used to document formal and informal learning. Dr. Partch-Davies shares examples of how UNH-4U is documenting student competencies using digital badging.
This webinar focuses on how faculty support students with intellectual disability enrolled in their college courses. Two professors share their experiences in supporting students with intellectual disability enrolled in college success and leadership classes, and the importance of having a support system in place to aid students in- and outside the classroom. Adjusted assignments and assessments will be discussed that support students’ development.
On September 23, 2021, the Think College Emerging Advocates Group gathered for a meeting with special guest Judy Heumann. Judy is an international disability rights advocate. The group is made up of students with disabilities and others who think advocacy is important. One of the students asked Judy to come speak to them. We had a great meeting and want to thank all of the students who shared their thoughts and asked questions.

Starting in 2010, the NCC has been collecting program and student data from Transition and Postsecondary Programs for Students with Intellectual Disability (TPSIDs) for over 10 years. Data, like how programs are staffed and what students do, provide insight into what can help students achieve their desired outcomes of academic inclusion and employment.
