The transition from high school to college is a big one. If you’re a student with a disability, the additional stresses can be overwhelming. One of the largest changes that you will have to deal with is the substantial difference in scope between the special education services provided on the high school level and those at college. Fortunately, if you have a disability and plan on attending a college or university, you most certainly are not alone.

Get Ready for College: A Resource for Teens with Disabilities is a free virtual course for high school students and others who have an interest in learning about the transition to college. It was developed by the Center on Transition at Virginia Commonwealth University and features a series of lessons focusing on a different aspect in the college preparation, selection, and disability services process. If students with ID/DD are accessing the course, we recommend that it be facilitated, as piloting of the tool showed that to be helpful to reinforce the content.
This free, open access online course provides information to assist programs to complete and submit an application for CTP program approval. A CTP Application Template and a downloadable step-by-step checklist will guide programs through the entire application process. The course also provides examples of key components from successful CTP applications and other related resources.
