The value of a credential awarded by a college program for students with intellectual disability on a resume may not be clear to a potential employer—yet. But the value is there, even if it is not currently common knowledge. This brief was written to support program staff and others to clearly articulate the value of a program's credential to potential and current employers, students, family and other community members .
In order to improve employment outcomes for individuals with intellectual disability, it is important for VR personnel and higher education program staff to establish partnerships. The Employment Partnerships Collaborative Workgroup, a project of the Think College Inclusive Higher Education Network, identified states with exemplary partnerships and asked them to write up a description of what makes things work in their state.

This webinar was held December 11, 2024, and discussed the dignity of risk and how this approach can empower college students with intellectual disability. The webinar focused on the importance of supporting students’ ability to make their own choices and encouraging independence. Participants learned how manageable risks help students grow and fully experience college life. The session also explored the community life engagement approach, which helps ensure students with disability are included in all aspects of campus life.

This slide deck explains the basics of college programs, shares the national landscape of programs, and includes multiple graphics sharing data about current college programs and student outcomes. Also included are slides that share tips for a successful meeting with administrators, and a listing of additional program development resources. This can be used in whole or in part to frame an introductory presentation to college administrators or others who need to be introduced to college programs and why they are a good idea.
The University of Massachusetts Boston Transition Leadership program is a six-course, 18-month fully online graduate certificate program that prepares candidates for the role of secondary transition specialist. This program factsheet describes the program, candidate eligibility, the course of study, and required documentation to apply to the program.
