Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools: Next Steps for Inclusive Campuses

In March 2025, Think College hosted a webinar about Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools (UCS), a program designed to promote social inclusion on college campuses by uniting students with and without intellectual disability. Through activities that fostered friendship, respect, and understanding, UCS aimed to create environments where all students felt welcome, valued, and empowered to succeed.

Attendees of this webinar heard from Lexxi O’Brien and Scott George from Special Olympics North America and Brooke Montjoy from Special Olympics Tenneesee, experts in university engagement, as they guided participants through:

  • The history and mission of Unified Champion Schools.
  • How UCS collaborated with inclusive higher education programs to foster a culture of belonging.
  • Practical resources and tools to help campuses establish a UCS program and create a lasting impact.
