The TPSID Initiative Programs

These four documents were created by staff at Think College to clearly explain the purpose of the different federally funded projects focused on college options for students with intellectual disability-- the National Coordinating Center, the Inclusive Higher Education Network, the TPSID Model Demonstration projects-- as well as the comprehensive federal initiative Model Transition Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities into Higher Education. 

The Think College National Coordinating Center: Improving Inclusive Postsecondary Education Practice and Outcomes provides an overview of the Think College National Coordinating Center (NCC). This national center is funded by the Office of Postsecondary Education, US Department of Education, and is one of the three programs funded under the federal TPSID Initiative focused on college options for students with intellectual disability. The NCC provides coordination, technical assistance, and evaluation of TPSID programs and other inclusive postsecondary education programs and has created foundational standards and practices for accreditation. 

The Think College Inclusive Higher Education Network: Building Awareness and Capacity for Higher Education and Employment for People with Intellectual Disability provides an overview of the Think College Inclusive Higher Education Network. This national center is funded by the Office of Postsecondary Education, US Department of Education, and is one of the three programs funded under the federal TPSID Initiative focused on college options for students with intellectual disability. The purpose of this center is to build awareness, translate research to practice, create strategic partnerships, and build state, regional, and national capacity. 

The Transition and Postsecondary Programs for Students with Intellectual Disability (TPSID) model demonstration program was established by the Higher Education Opportunities Act and is funded and overseen by the Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE) in the US Department of Education as part of the federal TPSID initiative. The TPSID Model Demonstration Projects: Making College Accessible for Students with Intellectual Disability describes the highly successful TPSID initiative which expands and enhances high-quality, inclusive higher education options leading to positive outcomes for individuals with intellectual disability. 

The TPSID Initiative: Model Transition Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities into Higher Education provides an overview of the Department of Education’s comprehensive national funding initiative aimed at enhancing access to postsecondary education for students with intellectual disability, referred to as the Model Transition Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities into Higher Education. It includes three programs: 

  • Transition Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities into Higher Education Program Model Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (TPSID)
  • Coordinating Center for Transition and Postsecondary Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (TPSID:CC)
  • Postsecondary Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities – National Technical Assistance and Dissemination (PPSID:NTAD) Center
