In April, 2019, a group of college students with disabilities who attend Transition Postsecondary Education Programs for Students with ID came to Washington, DC to advocate for the Higher Education Act for themselves. They advocated alongside staff from those programs and others.
The Emerging Advocates Group is led by Liz Weintraub and Denise Rozell from the Association of University Centers on Disabilities, or AUCD. They hold this meeting for people with disabilities and their supporters and friends to gather to learn about advocacy and discuss important issues to the disability community. Everyone is welcome!
The theme for March's meeting is advocacy related to transportation.
This group was developed for students with disabilities to talk with others so they could continue to share ideas and learn tips together about advocacy.
