As a result of thoughtful discussions and considerations, the Think College Affinity Groups are taking a new form! Now known as Think College Groups, these are spaces where peers from around the country and of any level of experience can share information and resources on topics relevant to their unique make up. There are three Think College Groups for Program Professionals, Transition Professionals, and Family Members, all housed on Facebook. In Think College Groups, peers can pose questions, share resources, and get ideas for advancing college opportunities for students with intellectual disability.
Existing Groups
Program Professionals, formerly known as the Think College Program Staff Discussion Group, has over 650 members who have been engaging in that space for a couple of years. We welcome those who work directly to provide support to students on campus, and also researchers and student researchers who are contributing to the development of the field of inclusive postsecondary education. Sign up.
The Families page is well established, with over 3,200 members. This is the oldest Think College Facebook community. We plan to build on the activity and interest in this groups with more planned live events and other enhancements, but the group will fundamentally be the same. Sign up.
And our newest group with just over 300 Transition Professionals, is meant to build awareness and capacity amongst K-12 educators and transition service providers, like vocational rehabilitation professionals. Sign up.
Think College staff will be adding to discussions as needed and scheduling planned events on a variety of topics. These events will also be promoted via our Events page and across our social media channels. Planned activities begin in November, so please be sure to join as soon as possible so that you don’t miss out! For questions about Think College Groups, please email thinkcollegeTA@umb.edu.
