State Policy and Advocacy Tools

Text reads New State Policy & Advocacy Tools with Think College and AUCD logos

With a view toward state legislatures coming into session now, Think College and AUCD have developed a series of new documents  to use in building relationships with state policymakers. Developed and adapted from the Think College Policy Advocate toolkit of federal materials, these templates and talking points will guide users through finding state legislators, building relationships, sharing information on inclusive postsecondary education, and developing personal talking points and “elevator speeches.”

A glossary of policy terms is included for those who may not consider themselves policy experts.

All the materials are in plain language for use with students, families and the general public. The materials can be used by constituents in any state, although some issue-specific talking points (such as state scholarships) are included.

There is also a flyer with a QR code which leads to all of the advocacy documents that can be shared at conferences, or state or regional meetings.

If you have questions or would like help in developing or adapting the materials to your particular issues or state, contact Denise Rozell drozell@aucd.org or Susanna Miller-Raines Susanna.MillerRaines@umb.edu at Think College.
