When the “Think Higher. Think College.” campaign launched in 2023, several audiences were identified as key to spreading the word that college is an option for students with intellectual disability, especially important among them: educators! Teachers and other education professionals hold the key to success in supporting students with intellectual disability in the transition from high school to college.

In this short film, meet Nicole, a young woman thriving in college, and hear from her high school team and college faculty about the supports that helped her succeed. You’ll also hear from educators, transition specialists, and administrators who are proving that college is possible for every student.

There are over 350 colleges and universities in the US that offer programs for students with intellectual disability. These campuses vary, but they require that a student wants to go to college and that they have skills to be ready for college, like keeping a calendar, going to class and doing the work, and more. College opens doors, helping students with intellectual disability gain independence and meaningful, long-term employment.

Share this video with the educators in your life to help them see how important it is for them to have high expectations - Think Higher and Think College, including for students with intellectual disability. Show educators everywhere that students with intellectual disability can go to college, and that they play a key role in making it happen.
