Three universities share descriptions of their residence life programming along with tips and strategies for meaningfully including students in all aspects of campus life in these two one-hour recorded webinars.
1. Residential Life: Two University Programs Share their Practices: Staff and students from the University of Oklahoma Sooner Works and University of Alabama CrossingPoints programs describe their approaches to support student living on campus in this informative webinar. The University of Oklahoma (UO) describes how they support students in living on campus including individualized strategies and supports as students grow in their independence. Their focus is on authentic student engagement during their college program in their residential living choices, and they share several specific strategies they employ to reach that goal. The University of Alabama discusses strategies around supporting students with ID to engage with the residential life sponsored social activities and workshops, student government activities and Student Life clubs and activities, as well as Greek life.
2. Developing Partnerships for Successful Inclusive Campus Housing: This webinar introduces the inclusive living component of the Succeed Program and how it was developed. An inclusive residential program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities comes with unique support needs and requires partnerships across the University. The webinar focuses on the University partnerships needed to maintain an inclusive community which include, Residential Life, Campus Police, Health Wellness and Counseling, Student Conduct, and Student Involvement. The webinar also highlights common concerns that each of these campus units will have and how to address these concerns in order to support students in the community. Communication between campus departments is key in providing the best supportive inclusive campus housing environment for all students. The University of Missouri-St. Louis Succeed Program is in its 6th year as a post-secondary program with inclusive housing.
