Meg Grigal, Clare Papay, and Brian Freedman from University of Delaware, presented a session called Including Students with Intellectual Disability in the First Year Experience at The 39th Annual Conference on The First-Year Experience. This conference provides an ongoing forum where higher education professionals can share experiences, concerns, and accomplishments related to supporting student learning, development, and success in the first college year.

Individuals' attitudes impact the decisions they make in life. These attitudes are often formed early and are maintained by individuals throughout their lives. Attitudes toward individuals with disabilities were compared for undergraduate students enrolled in introductory special education and political science courses. This population was selected as policy makers typically enroll in introductory political science classes as undergraduates.
Increasing numbers of students with disabilities are pursuing post-secondary education. Many campuses are not yet equipped to meet the unique and diverse needs of students with disabilities. This article examines programs, services and programs aimed at promoting student choice, independence, social participation, and supports needed for academic success. Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) has developed and implemented a comprehensive disability services program using a decentralized disability services model.
