This college planning timeline was created by the Think College Transition team to help teachers, families, and students prepare for college. It includes tasks that should be considered throughout high school, as well as for specific grade levels.

This resource includes the Power Point presentation for the webinar, Capitalizing on Inclusive Dual Enrollment Experiences for IEP Planning & Progress Monitoring. This webinar provided an overview of numerous ways that IEP team members are capitalizing on these college experiences to develop IEPs that reflect these rich transition experiences as well as to communicate the progress students are making on measurable postsecondary goals.

It wasn’t easy: there were a lot of meetings, a lot of resistance, and many other obstacles.

There is information about opportunities and challenges, what to expect, what motivates a student to go to college, how best to navigate the process, and more. Throughout this chapter there are vignettes from students and families to illustrate the points made.
Research and experience tell us a great deal about how to successfully educate students with the full range of intellectual disability, but unfortunately this knowledge remains underutilized and inconsistently applied.
Pre-planning is key to achieving goals, and this article describes the importance of planning ahead to optimize utilization of resources available to students. Describing the necessary steps and process of creating supports, this article emphasizes collaboration and person-centered planning. It also highlights some of the supports and strategies that some students are using.

Stressing the importance of early preparation it begins with what needs to be done starting in Middle School and continuing all the through High School. The author provides parents and teachers with a checklist style guide to facilitate optimum preparation.
