During a Student Credentials Affinity Group meeting, Dr. Christi Kasa from University of Colorado Colorado Springs presented on Colorado’s portable credential available at 3 of Colorado’s inclusive postsecondary education (IPSE) programs. The process and philosophy behind this portable credential and the program of study it represents is provided. The presenters also share how the students are able to take courses for credit through a transcript designation of ‘modified course.’ A sample transcript is shared.

April topic: Partner perspectives in CBTS

The purpose of this affinity group is to support members whose work involves supporting transition-aged students with intellectual or developmental disabilities who are or who would like to include college in their transition services. The group will be guided by members’ priority topics which will be determined through a survey and group check-ins at the online meetings.

Postsecondary education (PSE) programs allow for college students with intellectual disability to experience a higher level of autonomy in choice making, which they may not have experienced in their family home or high school. This includes choice making related to romantic and sexual relationships. The Continuum of Support for Intimacy Knowledge in College Survey (CoSIK-C) was used to examine how PSE programs support college students in building their intimacy knowledge.

Sorretie Jaro is a self-advocate from Washington and is a 2018-2019 SARTAC Fellow. Sorretie created resources for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities on how to educate legislators. Sorretie worked in partnership with the Washington Office of Developmental Disabilities Ombuds and the Self-Advocacy Resource and Technical Assistance Center to develop these Self-Advocacy Leadership and Policy resources.
