This special issue of Impact explores what we know, and what we still need to know, about what works to support increased participation of students with disabilities, especially those with intellectual disabilities, in postsecondary education and why that participation is important.
Think College Insight Brief #9 describes how EXCEL was formed, how its work led to the creation of THRIVE, and how others might use a similar process for similar efforts in other areas of the country. Over a period of four years, the founders of EXCEL evolved from meeting informally over coffee to establishing an official nonprofit organization. EXCEL raised private money from generous families and foundations, then used partnerships with public agencies to promote sustainable inclusive programs in local colleges.

This brief describes the fiscal, policy, and environmental contexts of the state of practice and research in the field of inclusive higher education for students with intellectual disability (ID) at the time it was written, in 2011. It also introduces a validated, standards-based conceptual framework that provides a foundation for future research and practice in this field.
This checklist and worksheet assists job developers to think through the variety of ways to collect information about a job seeker. It describes seven strategies for information gathering, and then asks the job developer to reflect on which strategies they used and how they used them.
Think College Insight Brief #7 provides some background on IDEA, describes the connection between IDEA and postsecondary education for students with ID, and shares strategies that advocates can use to influence the next reauthorization.
Think College Insight Brief #6 gives an overview of the impact of students with intellectual disabilities in postsecondary education opportunities on teacher education programs. Peer mentoring programs at four universities are described and discussed.
The purpose of this study is to examine the general characteristics of PSE programs for students with intellectual disabilities and the extent to which students with intellectual disabilities are participating in college classes by way of a national survey.
