Academic Evaluation

Resources on grading and evaluating in postsecondary courses.

These examples of Satisfactory Academic Progress Policies can be used to inform development of a program's SAP Policy.  They illustrate key components of an SAP Policy:

  • Based on the existing policy of the institution
  • Addresses how progress is measured in all aspects of the course of study (academics, career development, independent living, social growth)
  • Sets minimum standards that must be met to show satisfactory progress
  • Outlines what occurs when the student is not making satisfactory progress.

Are you interested in learning what supports are available for college students with intellectual disabilities? Presenters Ashley Luce and Maria Paiewonsky will explore the comprehensive supports available on college campuses. Luke SaintAmour, a student at UMass Boston, will join to share his perspective.

This example from the University of South Alabama’s PASSAGE program illustrates how a learning contract for a student in an audited college course can be set up to align to the greatest extent possible with learning goals for all students in the class, ensure meaningful learning and support full participation. The contract also sets up ways to measure student progress in the course.

This worksheet, developed by Colorado State University, can be used in measuring the level of attainment students have in reaching their own goals. Goal Attainment Scaling (GAS) is an option that can be used as a means of measuring outcome data from different contexts set out on a 5 point scale of 0 to +4. It enables the data to be placed on a quantitative measurement scale thus tackling the problem of how to adequately identify and measure qualitative goal impact and attainment.
