Students with Intellectual Disabilities: Establishing Inclusive Campus Initiatives that Thrive

Historically, students with intellectual disability (ID) have not been included in college level education. Over the last decade, as more institutions begin to realize that programs that serve students with ID fit in with their mission and vision, the numbers of programs offered nationwide have substantially grown. Think College, a national initiative dedicated to developing, expanding, and improving research and practice in inclusive higher education for students with ID, estimates there are dedicated programs for college students with ID on 300+ campuses across the country.

Preparing Students with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities for Inclusive Higher Ed (Transition TN)

This webcast will be 2-fold. The webcast’s first part will focus on finding college options for students with intellectual disabilities. It will include a review of resources to help students and families to find the right fit, prepare for college, and pay for college. The webcast’s second part will focus on the Tennessee Alliance for Inclusive Higher Education and Tennessee resources to help students and families pay for college, and review college options currently available in the state.

Webinar: A Self Advocate Perspective: Strengthening the System of Support

Join Employment First Florida on April 12, 2022 to hear from self-advocates as they discuss their membership in the Florida Developmental Disabilities Network Leadership Development Program. Attendees will learn about work being done to identify barriers and solutions to improve quality employment services for those with developmental disabilities. During the event, our speakers will describe the creation of a scorecard that allows people with disabilities to determine whether they are receiving high quality employment services.

Strategies for Meaningful Student/Youth/Young Adult Engagement on State and Local Teams

This session, presented by members of the NTACT:C Youth Engagement Transition Initiative (YETI), will provide state and local interagency team members with strategies and resources to meaningfully engage students, youth, and young adults in transition team meetings and related activities. State team leaders who will be attending this year’s May 3-5, 2022 NTACT:C Capacity Building Virtual Institute are encouraged to participate in this session and to actively recruit and engage a student/youth/young adult to be on your state’s CBVI team.

AUCD Webinar: The Social Media Life Cycle: The Why, What, and How of a Post

This AUCD Community Education and Dissemination Council (CEDC) webinar will discuss how to intentionally use social media to boost outreach to policy members, stakeholders, advocates, and people with disabilities, how to encourage engagement with social media posts, ensuring that accessible post design is top of mind, and how to track and use social media analytics to make communication decisions to your social media platforms.
