Minnesota Inclusive Higher Education 2024 Conference: Harnessing Momentum, Building Capacity, Empowering Futures

The Minnesota Inclusive Higher Education Conference provides opportunities for college and university faculty and staff, students, parents, educators, supporters, and advocates to gain new insights and forge connections. This hybrid event will inform, inspire, and empower the inclusive higher education community.

MIHEC Learning Community: Engaging Students, Families, and Educators in the Inclusive Postsecondary Education Preparation Process

The Minnesota Inclusive Higher Education Consortium (MIHEC) will be hosting the Learning Community Event to engage students, families, and educators in the Inclusive Postsecondary Education Preparation Process.Through a combination of presentation and group discussion, this interactive event will review important steps and resources for students, families, and educators as the student prepares to transition to college.Helping students with intellectual and developmental disability prepare for inclusive postsecondary education (IPSE) is best addressed with a team approach.

High-Quality Inclusive Higher Education Initiatives

Hosted by the Minnesota Inclusive Higher Education Consortium, this session will review the process of creating an effective and successful post-secondary education program for students with intellectual disabilities from conception to implementation. Important considerations will be shared including planning, potential barriers, training, engaging all stakeholders, and measuring outcomes. The program will include how to prepare faculty and staff and develop potential systems of support including tutors and mentors.

SSI Work Incentives Webinar

During this webinar, Angie Hoffman will share about the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Work Incentives available to people with disabilities who are receiving Social Security Disability Benefits. It will also include information for Florida Postsecondary Comprehensive Transition Programs on how to help students and their families understand how people with disabilities can protect their benefits while working and connect to Work Incentive Planning Assistance. A Community-Based, Collaborative Transition Model for Minnesota Youth with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

The Institute on Community Integration (ICI) is currently leading a Community-Based Collaborative Transition Model project to improve the transition experiences and outcomes of Minnesota students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The project intersects with MIHEC's inclusive higher education efforts to expand postsecondary education options for students with an intellectual disability. Renáta Tichá, Brian Abery, and Seunghee Lee will share the project goals, the project's preliminary findings, and the next steps.

Strategic Partnerships Derived from Common Goals (Employment Opportunities, Work Skills Training, and Transition to Employment after College)

Oklahoma currently has three Inclusive Post Secondary Education (IPSE) options for students with intellectual/developmental disabilities which are Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary Programs (CTP designated) and one IPSE program for degree-seeking students with autism. The strategic partnerships that support students’ access to college and community employment are an essential component of the Oklahoma IPSE initiatives.

MIHEC Learning Community Event: Embracing Dignity of Risk

This event, hosted by the Minnesota Inclusive Higher Education Consortium (MIHEC), will feature a discussion about the importance of the dignity of risk for students with intellectual disabilities who are pursuing an inclusive postsecondary education (IPSE). The presenters are Christopher Worth and Magen Rooney-Kron, PhD. Chris Worth is a community organizer, sexuality educator, and college instructor at University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). Magen Rooney-Kron, PhD, is an assistant professor and researcher at UMSL. They will be joined by a student who will share the student perspective.

State Alliance Capacity Building Institute at 2023 SEPSEA Conference

The Think College Inclusive Higher Education Network, in partnership with the Southeast Postsecondary Education Alliance (SEPSEA), will host a state alliance capacity building institute (CBI) as a breakout session strand at the 2023 SEPSEA Conference, May 17-19, 2023 in Nashville, TN. The CBI will focus on supporting the development and expansion of state alliances for inclusive postsecondary education (IPSE) across the United States. Those who have active state alliances or those who are interested in bringing state partners together are invited to join us!
